Blues, Roots & Grooves
Touring
musicians Chris Matthews and Kev Lymn are back in the Northern Territory
as part of their national tour of Australia. Territorians may have heard
the two troubadour’s original blend of blues, roots, folk and country
during their previous jaunt into the outback in 2003/4.
Chris Matthews is rapidly building a reputation as one
of Australia’s finest young guitarists and songwriters with his
original take on rockin’ blues, wild slide and flat out finger picking.
He has developed an amazing technique of playing bass, rhythm
and lead on the one guitar, which is incredible to both behold and hear.
Matthews is continually honing his songs of people, places and spaces
on the road with over 80,000 km’s on the tripmeter, and clocking
up more than 900 gigs all over Australia in the last four years alone.
Late nights, 5 hour gigs, much broken gear and countless hours of playing
have formed him into a highly entertaining and energetic player, with
his witty stage banter and stories of the road elevating him above the
rest of the pack.
Kev Lymn is perhaps one of Australia’s most intelligent
and poignant songwriters. Having toured across Europe, America and Australia,
his song
writing reflects the experiences gathered during these journeys. His songs
are written from an outsider’s perspective weaving tales of loss,
love, despair and hope.
Both Matthews and Lymn perform individually and together with six and
twelve string, resonator and lap steel guitars, vocals and stomp box.
Their guitar skills in combination make a duo of highly entertaining intensity.
